Trump Says Iran FM's Deal Post 'Very Positive'

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump said Friday he views Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi's public remarks about a possible US-Iran agreement as "very positive" — and confirmed he still expects a deal could be signed as early as this weekend or Monday, according to media.

In a phone call with Axios, Trump said he remained optimistic about the timeline, even as he demanded Tehran publicly correct what he described as false information circulating in Iranian state media about the deal's contents.

In a striking show of diplomatic signaling, Trump took to his TruthSocial platform to repost a message Araghchi had published on X, in which the Iranian foreign minister wrote: "The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has never been closer," referring to the prospective agreement between the US and Iran.

In the same post, Araghchi called on journalists and media outlets to hold off on speculation while negotiations remained in their final stages, pledging full transparency once the process concludes.

"Pending its finalization, the media should refrain from entering speculation about its content. In line with our responsible and transparent approach, all details will be shared with the public in due course," he said.

Trump Accuses Iran of Leaking False Terms
Despite the outward optimism, Trump did not hold back his frustration over what he characterized as a deliberate Iranian disinformation effort targeting the deal's details.

Earlier Friday, Trump alleged that Tehran had fed fabricated terms to the press — terms he said bore no resemblance to what had actually been agreed upon in writing.

"The terms that Iran leaked out to the Fake News have NOTHING to do with the terms that were agreed to, in writing," Trump wrote on his social media account.

He went further, dismissing Tehran's public characterization of the deal's status in blunt terms.

"What they said, including their weak and pathetic statement on having a deal, bears no relation to the truth," he added.

Signals Cutting Through the Noise
The episode underscores the volatile information environment surrounding one of the most consequential diplomatic efforts in recent Middle East history. Even as both sides trade accusations over leaks and messaging, the fact that Trump amplified Araghchi's post — and described it as "very positive" — suggests that beneath the public friction, the two sides remain closer to a final agreement than the rhetorical sparring might imply.

With a potential signing now penciled in for the weekend or Monday, the next 48 hours are expected to be decisive.
