The Anti-Fraud Coalition Launches Annual Fraud By The Numbers Series Documenting Role Whistleblowers Play Fighting Fraud

TAF Coalition supports whistleblowers and those fighting fraud with 20 new well-cited posts on the state of fraud in America, to be published in September 2026.

WASHINGTON, DC, UNITED STATES, September 1, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The Anti-Fraud Coalition (TAF Coalition), a public interest, non-profit organization dedicated to defending and empowering whistleblowers who expose fraud, today announced the launch of Fraud by the Numbers. Fraud by the Numbers is an annual research and writing project conducted by TAF Coalition’s attorney members to provide reliable data and sources to document how pervasive fraud is in all aspects of our modern society and how whistleblowers are integral to exposing it. From fraud on federal and state governments and financial markets to tax evasion and money laundering, fraud costs Americans billions every year and 2026 is no exception. Fraud by the Numbers quantifies the cost of fraud. Documenting the real numbers in this battle is important to TAF Coalition because whistleblowers are increasingly recognized as the most effective weapon to expand the government’s ability to fight this massive scourge that impacts all of us, every day, wherever we live.

Over the next month, this series will be shining an important light on what fraud looks like in the United States (and around the world). It is the culmination of months of research finding government data and private studies of how pervasive fraud is, and what our government’s actual human and financial resources are to combat it.

“This is one of the most impactful research projects TAF Coalition undertakes each year,” said Jacklyn DeMar, TAF’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “Our members are using cold hard numbers and facts to document this problem. The numbers don’t lie; fraudsters do.”

Highlights in this year’s series include: An annual review of the federal government’s recoveries under the False Claims Act, the Dodd-Frank Whistleblower Programs and the new DOJ Antitrust Whistleblower program; research documenting a whopping 464% return on investment for every dollar invested in State Medicaid Fraud Control Units (MFCUs) to combat Medicaid fraud; and how some states are using their own state False Claims Acts to go after tax cheats. In the financial frauds arena, SEC’s own data shows how fraudsters use the money they steal. Spoiler. It’s luxury cars, jewelry and watches, private jet travel, yachts, vacation homes, designer goods, and fine art.

This year’s series also documents how whistleblowers will continue to play an important role in the fight against fraud even as the federal government emphasizes its own new programs and priorities, including a Presidential Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, an expanding Corporate Whistleblower program and a new National Fraud Enforcement Division at the Department of Justice, and the CFTC taking aim at prediction markets that exceeded $40 billion in 2025.

For the next four Fridays, TAF Coalition will provide links to the week’s new Fraud by the Numbers blogs. Sign up at the bottom of our website: https://www.taf.org/.
